SONRISE RETREAT
God has given LDM the ability to expand our program with the addition of SonRise Retreats. This is an expansion of the Friendship Saturday program.
SonRise Retreat is a weekend (Friday through Sunday), mini Bible camp, sponsored by LDM at the FFA Training Center in Trafalgar, IN. This retreat is for adult guests who are mentally impaired. The guests' ages range from 18 to 65. Guests are paired with volunteers who range from age 14 through retirement. Activities include Bible study, arts and crafts, campfire, karaoke, dancing, hiking, and enjoying God's creation.
SonRise Retreat has three major goals:
- Provide a Spritual Retreat for our guest.
- Share the love of Jesus Christ with adults who are mentally impaired and give them a weekend that is Christ-centered.
- Give volunteers an opportunity to become a friend with a person who is developmentally disabled. Love and patience are the only requirements.
The dates for the SonRise Retreats are:
- Session #1: November 2 - 4, 2007
- Session #2: December 7 - 9, 2007
- Session #3: January 18 - 20, 2008
- Session #4: February 8 - 10, 2008
- Session #5: March 14 - 16, 2008
- Session #6: April 18 - 20, 2008
Guest's cost for one session: $150.00, (discounted rates available, please see the application for details). Due to a high demand for openings, please submit your application early. Guests may attend as many sessions as they desire.
The suggested donation for volunteers is $50.
SonRise Retreat is a wonderful opportunity to share your Christian faith and have fun and fellowship with an adult who is mentally impaired.
Volunteers are paired with a guest who is mentally impaired from Friday night through Sunday morning as they participate in all retreat activities and assist with activities of daily living. We are looking for high school, (14 and over) and college students and adults through retirement age to be volunteers. Love and patience are the basic requirements.
Please give prayerful consideration to becoming a volunteer with one of our guests. Your gift of time and love is so meaningful. It is a positive experience that you will never forget.
