Missionary Internships with LDM for 2008 begin May 27th for 10 weeks of service over an 11 week period, ending Saturday, August 9. There is some flexibility with the starting day for employment reasons. The first two weeks are spent in orientation, training and preparation for the summer of HandyCamp.
HandyCamp is a Christian summer residential Bible camp where adult campers with developmental disabilities are paired one-on-one with volunteer companions. As an intern, you will be part of the leadership team for the 2008 season.
Interns who have not previously experienced HandyCamp will spend their first two weeks at camp as a companion with one of our campers. This experience will help prepare you for leadership roles you will take on in later weeks as a Missionary Intern.
There is a cost to becoming a Missionary Intern. You will need to raise $1,500 for support from your church, friends and family. LDM’s donors will match what you raise up to a total of $3,000 which includes the portion you raise. This amount, not to exceed $3,000 will be paid back to you as a stipend that may be used for school tuition, support for another mission trip, or expenses. This stipend is considered taxable income.
